Chapter 139. Seeing Elder Roy

Nate watched Maddie disappear into the night, his heart heavy with worry and confusion. He could not understand why she was so desperate for him to reject her, but he knew he could not let her face her demons alone.

He wanted to be there for her, he wanted to help her, but the thing was he did not know how. How was he supposed to protect her when he did not know what he was protecting her from? 

He wanted so badly to follow her but also wanted to respect her decision to be alone. It hurt to just let her walk away into the night but he knew that it was for the best. He wondered how he was going to fall asleep tonight. 

As for Maddie, the omega walked briskly, her thoughts a whirlwind of fear and desperation. She needed to find Elder Roy before her birthday, or at least before sunrise because she had a feeling that it was already midnight, which meant that it was her birthday. 

She knew that it would be a long shot, trying to find where the elder stayed
