“And what happened? Did you learn the hard way?” Maddie wanted to keep seeing Nate smile. His eyes were so bright and his face was bathed in an emotion that warmed her heart. 

“Well, I did learn the hard way. I ate so many Pop tarts that I had diarrhea for two days straight. It was sh*t,” Nate explained, laughing as he did. Then he went quiet, his smile gradually fading away. “Man, I miss her,” He said under his breath. “I miss her so much.” He looked up at her and his eyes were teary. 

Maddie released a shaky breath as she stood to her feet and went over to him. “It’s okay,” She said as she gave him a side hug. 

“Yeah, I know. I’m okay, I didn’t say I wasn’t, did I?” He chuckled sadly, his voice breaking. “Sh*t,” He mumbled under his breath as a few tears escaped his eyes. He kept the smile on his face as if it was going to distract the omega that he was breaking down.
