Chapter 247. Taken

His mother looked at him, her eyes softening with understanding. “Jacob, you followed your heart. Maddie is like family to us at this point. You know how much I like her and want you to end up with her. You couldn’t have let her suffer when you knew there was a chance to save her. So yeah, I understand.” She flashed a warm and comforting smile at her son. 

Jacob felt a small sense of relief, letting out a breath that he did not know that he was holding. “I just hope that things do not get worse for her.”

“I’m sure everything will work out just fine, son,” She replied, standing to her feet. “Now…go take a shower, you smell like a goat.” She chuckled, getting a small laugh from her son in return. “Dinner will be ready when you’re done.” She smiled before walking away and leaving him alone. 

Jacob eventually stood up, feeling a bit lighter after the conversation with his mother. He headed to the bathroom, the weight of his worries still present but more manageable.
