The other elders nodded in agreement and Maddie felt like there was no hope for us. She adjusted herself in the chair she was sitting in and just sighed in defeat, feeling tears filling her eyes.

“What about mercy?” The principal spoke up for the first time since he had entered the room. “Are we not a people of mercy?”

Elder Roy locked eyes with the man and he chuckled gently. “People of mercy,” he mumbled under his breath. “Look, we are. But we are not stupid. We are also people who believe in consequences. Maddie can’t just be let off without paying for her sins.”

“Then strip away her title, that seems like justice to me, doesn't it not?” He countered. “Take the title of Luna away from her. That’s punishment enough.”
