Chapter 78. The Truth Hurts
The crash of the glasses shattering on the floor seemed to break the spell that had fallen over the room. Jacob’s sudden departure shifted the focus, and Maddie took the moment of distraction to follow him outside Her mind was racing, torn between the whirlwind of emotions brought on by Nate’s revelation and the need to talk to Jacob.
She pushed through the door and found Jacob leaning against the railing of the balcony that was outside, his shoulder slumped in defeat. The cool night air did little to calm her nerves, but she took a deep breath and approached him cautiously.
