Chapter 84. A Victory?

Elder Roy’s scowl deepened, but he knew he had been outvoted. “Very well,” He muttered. “But mark my words, this is not going to end well.”

The room began to disperse, the elders whispering amongst themselves. Maddie and Nate stood at the center, their hands still hovering close to each other.

Maddie’s mind raced, torn between the triumph of their acceptance and the shadow of her father’s past.

She headed towards the exit of the room and Nate stopped her. “Maddie, can we talk?”

Her breath caught in her throat and she swallowed hard, turning around to face the guy. “Um…sure.”

“Okay,” He replied, rubbing his hands on his thighs. “Are you still mad at me?” 

She doubled back a bit, why would she be mad at him? Then it clicked in her head, the Royal Ball. What he did at the ball was actually not okay and she understood why he would think she would be mad at him.
