Chapter 29
The traditional Thanksgiving dinner was absolutely delicious, which Katrina knew it would be. Edith was the kind of woman who could make a gourmet meal from just about anything. She took another sip of her wine and leaned back and patted her belly.
“Oh Edith, I think I gained about twenty pounds just now.” Kat tried to keep a burp in that was fighting its way to the surface. She failed.
“Good. You need it. You are much too scrawny.” Edith winked at her.
Scrawny wasn’t the word for Katrina, but she had lost plenty of weight this year. Being heartbroken tended to do that to a girl.
“It really was delicious, Mom,” Shane agreed and pushed away from the table to clear off some plates. “Why don’t you ladies go relax on the couch since you cooked everything? Joey and I will clear the mess. Right, Champ?”
