Chapter 51
Sky's POV
“We can’t talk about this here.” My father says. Through the branches, he squints and looks over my shoulder, trying to make out what's beyond. “It’s not safe.”
My father hasn't spoken about anything else except that. While expecting me to follow him, he turns away from me and walks through the trees that are dripping with water. As the rain stops falling from the sky, there is a moment of silence between us and the only sound that can be heard is the crunching of leaves beneath our feet. Our home, the pack house, is where he guides me.
I walk past him to the back porch, but he doesn’t follow; in fact, it’s like he’s disappeared. My eyes comb the backyard, taking in the lush greenery and blooming flowers, until they finally settle on the small structure by the tree line, causing my heart to skip a beat.
I walk over to the small house he built for my fifth birthday and carefully step inside. He’s sitting in one of the corners on the mostly dry groun
