"What are you talking about?"

"No, no you didn't. I just...I didn't understand you. What do you mean?"

Raine gave her a pitiful look. "Poor baby. My poor Sundrop. It breaks my heart to see you like this, honestly, it does."

"What is she talking about?" Malia asked her father, glancing at him in a silent plea for help. She noticed that he avoided her eyes, looking to the side. 

"The real reason you married Grant Houston is the reason I fought so damn hard for you. It's the reason I had to leave, to try and iron things out."

"Your darling father over here," Raine paused and put an arm around Malia, turning her so that the both of them faced Aaron. "He got us into quite the situation. And of course, you darlings were too young back then to understand anything, so you never knew."
