"Can't possibly what?" Grant cut in, tilting his head to the side to meet Clarke's eyes.
The poor butler did his best to avoid Grant's gaze, making Grant smile a bit.
"S-she's not in." Clarke finished, glancing at Grant.
"That sucks."
"Yes," Clarke said with a laugh. "I'm so sorry, you came at the wrong time and..."
"Clarke," Grant called softly.
"Yes, Mister Grant."
"You know one thing I hate above anything else?"
Clarke frowned. "No, I don't know. What is it?"
"Lies."
Clarke stiffened. "I… um… "
"Just tell me where she is. Okay?"
"I can't… "
"Can't? Are you sure you want to use that word?"
Grant was enjoying seeing Clarke squirm with discomfort under his gaze. Clarke was cool, Grant had liked him from when he was a kid. Clarke was efficient and always got work done on time. But ever since some recent developments, Clarke had changed.
Well, it wasn't just him, everyone had changed.
