Chapter 68
Malia lay in bed, buried under the covers. She had barely gotten any sleep, even though halfway through the night Grant gave her some space.
When morning came, she got out of bed and took a hot shower, standing under the stream of water till her fingertips turned wrinkly.
She dried her hair hastily, put a new bandaid over her cuts, put on her pajamas, and crawled back into bed. Her body felt numb and lacked feeling. She felt very tired, but couldn't sleep no matter how hard she tried.
She counted backward. She tried to read a book and failed. She counted the ceiling cracks.
Her eyes remained wide open, tired but open.
She had no idea how much time had passed. Cassie would pop in and ask her to eat. Malia got tired of telling her no that she just kept quiet the next time she showed up.
Malia sighed heavily and turned in bed, facing the door. It had been a while since Grant had left, saying he had something to do. He had kissed her
