Her eyes were almost unrecognizable and she looked broken as hell.

“Luna?” Lucas brushed past Ava as he went to embrace his sister. Had he not noticed how she looked?  “You weren’t supposed to be back until after a month. It has been only four days,” he withdrew from Luna and his face wrinkled wearingly. “Are you okay?”

“I am fine,” Luna lied. Yes, she was lying, the evidence was all over her. From her hair to her nail…what happened to her nail?

Ava rushed to her and grabbed her hand. “Luna?” She was alarmed. “What is wrong with your nails?”

Luna pulled her hand away so violently that Ava staggered, she returned her gaze to her brother with a smile that was so dark it appeared almost insincere. “Are you going to the gym, Lucas?”

“Yes,” Lucas’s eyes locked with Ava’s. “We are on our way to the gym.” Ava wondered if Lucas had not seen the way Luna had shoved her hand away from her.
