Ronan's POV

The floor tried to take me next.

I resisted before I had time to decide whether resistance was intelligent. Mara had chosen the white room. I had not chosen a Bridge chamber, and after the last month I had become extremely particular about supernatural systems confusing access with consent.

The worse truth was that being dragged after her would have satisfied part of me. At least I would have known where she was. Respect had required letting Mara disappear alone; fear immediately tried to make captivity together sound romantic.
