Chapter 104

Chloe’s POV

I did not go to the hospital.

I could not.

Instead, I forced myself into another taxi and told the driver to stop near a twenty-four-hour pharmacy three streets away from my apartment. I pulled my jacket tighter around my arm so no one would see the blood soaking through.

Inside the pharmacy, the bright white lights made everything feel unreal. The pharmacist barely looked at me as I picked up antiseptic, gauze, surgical gloves, a small sterile kit with tweezers and forceps, pain relievers, and bandages. My hands were shaking when I paid.

Back home, I locked the door twice.

I went straight into the bathroom and stripped off my jacket. The sight of the wound made my stomach churn. The bullet had grazed through the upper part of my arm, but it had lodged shallowly. Blood was still seeping slowly.

I stared at it for a long second.

I could do this.

I had to.
