Chapter 14

I freeze when I see Troy Milner seated in the living room. I wasn’t expecting to see him there. Kate never mentioned his coming home any time. I have always been eager to meet him, and I’ve replayed this scenario a thousand times in my head. I’ve imagined all the different ways I would react when I finally meet him, but never have I ever imagined I’d be shocked and scared like I am right now.

The first time I saw him, he and Kate had a fight, so we never really got around with introductions. I wasn’t bothered then, because I knew getting close to Kate would present me with more opportunities to meet him. Now, I’m standing right in front of him, my legs weakened with fear such that I’m barely holding myself. I suddenly realize that…oh shit, my arms.
