Chapter 17
I finally arrived at my mother's house, my heart pounding with fear and concern. As I pulled up, I saw her standing outside, looking frightened and relieved at the same time. She quickly rushed over to me and hugged me tightly.
"Oh, my baby, I'm so glad you're here," she said, tears streaming down her face. "Someone broke into the house. I don't know what they wanted, but they're gone now."
"Are you okay, Mom?" I asked, holding her tightly.
"I'm okay, but I was so scared," she said, her voice shaking. "I didn't know what they were going to do to me. I'm just glad you were able to come so quickly."
"Of course, Mom," I said, rubbing her back soothingly. "I would do anything for you. But we need to call the police and let them know what happened. They'll be able to help us figure out who did this and make sure they don't do it again."
"Yes, you're right," she said, taking a deep breath. "Let's call the police and get this taken care of. I just want to feel
