Chapter 20

I walked into my room and quickly dialed Mario's number. He picked up after a few rings, his gruff voice coming through the speaker.

"Hey, it's me," I said. "Did you take the nurse to the syndicate hideout like we discussed?"

"Yeah, I did," he replied. "She's safe and sound, don't worry. And I think it's time for us to meet up and map out our next move."

I hesitated for a moment, a feeling of unease creeping over me. "What do you mean? What's the next move?"

Mario's voice took on a serious tone. "Look, we've found out that Rojas is indeed your missing husband, Garrett. And now that we know the truth, we need to figure out what to do next. But in order to do that, you'll need to carry out the assignment I gave you."

I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach. "The assignment? You mean...the one where I have to...kill someone?"

Mario's voice was firm. "Yes, that's the one. It's a crucial part of our plan, and you need to be ready to do it when the time comes.
