Chapter 19

It was morning, and I hadn't slept a wink. I was in the kitchen, trying to make some coffee to wake myself up, when I heard my mother's voice behind me.

"Some of the things are missing from the house," she said, sounding concerned. "Did you throw them away?"

I turned to face her and smiled graciously. "Yes, I did," I said. "But don't worry, mother. It's okay."

She looked at me with a mixture of confusion and concern. "Is this about Garrett?" she asked. "Did you find out something about him?"

I nodded, feeling a surge of anger and pain. "Yes, I did," I said. "It turns out that Garrett is actually Rojas Cervantes. And I've confirmed it."

My mother's eyes widened in shock. "Rojas Cervantes? The governor's son?" she asked, sounding incredulous. "But how... how could he have fooled us like this?"

I shook my head, feeling overwhelmed. "I don't know, mother," I said. "But I'm not going to let him get away with it. I'm going to make him pay for what he's done."<
