Chapter 4
By the time Dallas climbed out of the shower and tugged on a sun dress, the clock said four o’clock. That gave her only an hour to get to town and get what she needed before the feed store closed. She applied a little bit of product to her curly hair in order to at least tame the wildness before stepping out into the arid air.
At the front door she pulled on her boots and grabbed the keys off the hook. Her dad was sitting in the rocking chair, glasses perched on the end of his nose as he read the paper.
“You’re dressed up,” he said looking over the rim of his glasses at her.
She frowned and looked down at the simple blue dress. It wasn’t anything special. In fact, it was plain. Simple spaghetti straps and a light flowy fabric. “It’s too hot to wear jeans,” she said, which was the complete truth. Besides she’d made the mistake of working in the evening sun yesterday in a tank top. Her skin wasn’t as resistant to the sun as it had once been. Her skin was still pink b
