Chapter 6
Cole was the first to reach her. “We know you.” His voice was low and gruff. Chills scattered over her arms, despite the muggy heat of the night.
“You look beautiful today,” Zane said, stepping closer. Their collective scent was overwhelming her senses. The smell of soap and cologne was almost euphoric.
“Where’s your little girlfriend,” she said, unable to hide bite in her tone.
For a moment they just looked at her, trying to process what she was talking about. Then realization came over Cole’s face. “Maddison?”
She arched a brow. “I don’t know what her name is,” she said tersely.
In the dim evening light, she could see the smug look on Cole’s face. “What’s wrong, sweetheart, are ya jealous?”
He was goading her and she knew it.
“Maddison is my cousin,” Zane said before she had a chance to respond. “She’s getting married next weekend and came in for a few days.”
She couldn’t explain it but all she felt was an immense amount of relief.
