The morning sun streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow over the packhouse. The scent of freshly baked pastries and spiced honey filled the air as omegas bustled around, setting up decorations for Johanis’ birthday. The packhouse was already lively, laughter and chatter echoing from the hall.
I sighed, smoothing a hand over my growing belly as I leaned back in my chair. Five months had passed since Hans had smugly declared me pregnant, and my belly was now undeniable proof that he had been right. Not that he ever let me forget it.
“Momma! Momma!”
A blur of golden curls and boundless energy sprinted toward me. Johanis, my little birthday boy, came to an abrupt halt beside my chair, his golden eyes shining with excitement. “Are they here yet?”
