Chapter 84. Tensions High
Ainsley
The noise outside pulls me from sleep.
At first, I think I’m dreaming—half-lost in the haze of exhaustion, my body still heavy from escaping Redmoon and coming to this motel before getting into that argument with Liam. But then I hear voices, low and urgent, rising just outside the motel door.
My stomach drops. Something’s wrong.
I push myself up, blinking against the dim motel room light and spot Iris over by the window. She has both hands cupped over her eyes to see out the dingy glass, her posture rigid.
“What’s happening?” I ask.
She shakes her head. “I don’t know. These guys all of a sudden showed up and started to argue with Koen.”
Anxiety bleeds into me. I swing my legs over the side of the mattress and push up from it, moving quickly over to where she’s standing. Pulling back the curtains a little bit more so I can see as well, I spot a group of shifters right outside the door with Liam and Koen among them.
