It takes everything in me not to close the distance between us the second I see her step through the treeline.
She moves carefully, her steps slow, like she’s still processing whatever happened just took place behind Windaster’s borders. An older man follows behind her, his gaze watchful, his presence imposing despite his age.
My entire body is wired, every muscle taut with the urge to reach for her, to pull her into my arms, to feel her against me. Our bond has been steady this whole time, a constant, silent reassurance that she was safe, even if sad at some points, but seeing her in person—seeing her standing there unharmed—is so much better.
Better than the fear gnawing at the edge of my control, whispering about all the things that could have gone wrong, making my teeth ache from how hard I’m clenching them. There was no real reason to think Windaster—or their pack alpha for that matter—would harm her. But at this point? I don’t trust anything
