Chapter 11
Morning came and went quickly. Nocturne and I made small talk as we ate breakfast. She seemed more reserved than usual, in fact, I felt like she was distancing herself from me. I could not help but wonder if this was her response to me needing more time to think about our contract. I smiled to myself as we left the dining room and headed to the lounge room.
“Andrew will have the carpenter coming today after your meeting with Countess Golda.” I told her.
“Wonderful! I already have the blueprints for all the items I need him to build.” She nodded in approval.
“That is great, but how do you plan on paying him?” I asked.
“I have my own secret treasure stashed away, my little mage. If you have lived for as long as I have, you too would have acquired riches that would make your greatest king look like a pauper.” Nocturne smirked with pride. I sighed as we came to the lounge room. We entered and were greeted by the sight of an elderly woman, dressed in mourning
