Chapter 59

After pretending to be merry long into the night, I was relieved to finally be heading back to my tent for some rest. Nocturne joined me as we left the campfire and walked through the barracks together.

 “I do like the stars.” Nocturne commented as we walked.

 “Do you not have stars where you live?” I asked, in a joking manner.

 “You cannot see stars in the underworld, or in the astral plane for that matter.” She answered seriously. I was so surprised by this revelation that I stopped and looked up at the stars myself. The blue-black sky of the night was filled with bright diamonds in the sky. It was the night of a new moon, so nothing dimmed the light of the stars.

 “We met on a night like this.” I remembered. “It was a new moon that night.” I recalled.

 “Yes, I remember now. I was admiring the stars when I felt your presence. You even addressed me before you did that stupid ritual.” She laughed lightly. “It seems so long ag
