Instead, he stayed close, surprising her because that was enough to make him want to be out of there. Yet, here he was, too close while he hung around. At some point she wondered why Jay didn’t have a problem with him around and was contemplating going to let him know she didn’t mind if he wanted to kick Steve out.
But she didn’t go to Jay. She didn’t want it to be put out there that he was her ex so she just endured having him around; having him leaning against the counter, watching her like he had every right to be there. Every now and then he’d say something low to her with the most familiar and casual tone, like nothing had changed between them.
Once, his hand brushed her waist. She shifted away without looking at him and didn’t say anything. It could get to a point.
The door opened again. This time, Jay looked. Cain walked in, his presence hitting the room before he even spoke. His eyes swept once, taking in the space, Liana’s team, the work… His eyes stopped
