Chapter 19
The next day.
Cain unlocked the bar earlier than usual. Cain was opening the bar today because Jay had something else to attend to on behalf of the club and Cain volunteered to be at the bar today just so he could watch Liana. He had just opened the club.
The place was quiet; empty in a way it never was during the day. No voices, no tools, no movement. Just space and the faint smell of wood and metal. He stepped in, shut the door behind him, and took a slow look around like he was checking it for something. Or someone.
He moved behind the counter, setting his keys down, rolling his shoulders once. There was no reason for him to be there this early, but he was.
A knock came at the door. Cain glanced over with lazy eyes. It surely wasn’t Liana or one of her people, else they wouldn’t have knocked, and besides it was too early for Liana, too early for her crew.
He walked back and opened it. A delivery guy stood there, holding a bouquet.
