Cain stared at her. “Okay?” he repeated.
She lowered the cup slightly, her brows pulling together just a little. “What do you want me to say?”
His jaw tightened faintly. “I don’t know,” He admitted. “I just thought you’d be… angry.”
“Why would I be angry?”
He let out a quiet, quite exhausted breath, frustration slipping through. “Because I dragged you into something you didn’t sign up for,” he said. “Because I’m basically at the verge of fucking up your life right now. Because the reason those men showed up last night…” He paused and looked away, then finished it. “…is me.”
Liana stared at him for a second longer, then huffed out a small, almost amused breath, shaking her head slightly.
