OLIVIA
Emily’s eyes widened in disbelief, her fork pausing midair as she processed what she had just heard, “He called you what?” Her voice filled with shock.
“He did, but he’s backtracking now,” I replied bitterly. “Says he wants to be there for the baby and me. But I don’t know if I can believe him after all that’s happened.”
Emily’s expression softened into one of concern. “Liv, you don’t owe him anything. Not after the way he’s treated you. It’s your call, and you have every right to be cautious.”
I couldn’t tell her what I was up to, she’ll never agree. So it was best I kept it to myself for now.
Meanwhile, Mrs. King quietly observed the exchange, her gaze shifting between Emily and me. She had a way of remaining impartial, yet her gentle presence offered a sense of stability.
“Olivia, dear,” she began, “You must follow your instincts. Trust is earned over time, and it’s okay to take things slow. What matters most right now is your well-being
