“Hey, sister…” I heard, then I felt a shrug on my shoulders which jolted me awake.
“Hailey… you’re awake,” I said, still half asleep, yawning.
“Yeah… when are we going to go home?” she asked in her childish tone.
“Very soon love, very soon,” I answered, placing my hand on her face as I gave her a reassuring smile.
“But I feel alright right now, I really want to go back to school, to meet my friends,” she said. “I’ve missed them and I’m sure they’ve been asking about me,” she added.
I swallowed hard, my legs almost trembling from the fact that I couldn’t—and could never—tell her the truth just yet. If not, she might relapse, and she’d only just gotten out of a coma. I can’t risk something happening to her once more; it would hurt me that badly.
