Chapter 29. The Council Meeting (4)

After the rest of the Council members filed away from the chamber, only Elias and Audrey were left in the chamber in silence.

None of them spoke a word for a while. Audrey seemed to be contemplating something in her head while Elias simply folded his arms across his chest, waiting with a bored look on his face.

Audrey sent him a glance. “What are you still doing here?” she asked. “The meeting’s been adjourned.”

“I’m waiting for someone,” Elias answered.

“Someone? Here?”

“Yes.”

Silence fell between them once more. Then again, both had never been good with words or small talk. Also, with Elias being a vampire and with Audrey being a vampire hunter, it was understandable that they didn’t have that many things in common except for being the leaders of their respective councils.

“Though I could say the same for you,” Elias suddenly said, his gaze resting on her with interest. “I thought you mentioned doing the necessary paperwork?”

“That’s for us
