I had not planned to speak out, and Emery had pleaded with me to remain hidden, but I was no coward. I wasn’t going to stand by and allow another man to take away the solution to my problems. If all they had said so far was true, it meant I was the biggest fool ever to exist. The very person I had been searching for had been under the same roof as me, and I had even had a close encounter with her. How could I not have guessed?

Maybe Mars was right. Maybe I was looking at myself in my relentless pursuit of a lasting solution to my impotence. But at the moment, whether Mars was right or not wasn’t a major worry. It was how to take Venus away from Wren without tearing his head from his neck.
