Chapter 28. Meeting Again

The sun was not as harsh as when we first arrived but its rays toasted the back of my neck. As I walked, I kicked stones and dragged my feet. Maybe I did act like a child sometimes but it wasn't my fault. My father had protected me from most of my responsibilities while growing up and shielded me from criticism. As an only child, nothing was beyond my reach.
I had not really given the future a thought. Somehow, I hoped my father would live forever, be the Alpha for another hundred years and I would be free to waste away in my youth. However, the years went by so fast and I was twenty-one in the blink of an eye. I was married for Goddess' sake to the pack's angel and I suddenly had so many people looking up to me to make good decisions, decisions that would determine their livelihood.
