“By the way, do you want to say hi to Arold?” she beamed at him. It was always a pleasure, whether bumping into her cousin like this or on intentionally friendly dates that they often set.
“Oh, so that’s who you’re having lunch with?” Mike tried to act surprised but was unsure how he should act. He was always like that around her - on his toes whenever he was with her as if he wanted to impress her, which of course, he did. He liked it when she conversed with him; it was as if he was the only one in the room.
“You’re not focusing,” she teased him as if sensing his discomfort. It had been like this ever since she could remember. They had an easy banter going on and could hold a long conversation about anything and everything.
