Chapter 23. Demand for Rent
Rose’s POV
“Good. I’d like to know who has been sending those packages to you.”
I gasped. “Why sir? Is it causing any problems at the bar?”
“Yes, as a matter of fact, it is. Listen, this is a place of work, not some romance station. I need to know who is sending things occasionally to my staff and the contents of the package. It’s for security purposes,” he said and leaned back in his chair while stretching his grubby hands. “I’m sure you understand what I mean.”
I nodded slowly. “I do, sir. However, I wasn’t informed that workers couldn’t receive gifts from outsiders here.”
“I haven’t said that, Rose. Don’t quote me wrongly.” The manager’s tone shifted. He sounded a bit offended now. “All I’m saying is that I should know who is sending things to my bar and what they’re sending. I have to protect the interests of other workers. And I have to protect my business environment as well. I mean, why if you’re receiving guns and bombs?”
