Chapter 74
Claire's POV
Upon my return, I noticed that Cain had already constructed a fire pit and was currently kneeling in the dirt, piling brush together on the ground and creating what appeared to be a makeshift bed.
Cain looked up at me when he heard my step, then back down at his work, shrugged, and said, "I tried to make some beds." He showed the second bed of bushes. "They won't be that great, but it's better than sleeping on the ground," Cain said, rubbing the back of his neck. I laughed at him.
I gave him a smile and shook my head. "Thank you... They're perfect, and it's better than nothing. I did find some wood, though." I put the pile next to the hole in the ground. "Some of it is wet, but once we get the fire going, it shouldn't be a problem to burn." I got a few logs and put them in the middle of the pit. Then I went to my bag and got the lighter out.
