Chapter 13
After a long while, Jasper felt like someone had kicked his leg. It turned out to be a guard coming to wake him up.
“Get up and follow me,” the guard said.
Still half-asleep and disoriented, Jasper asked, “Go where?”
“To your new residence.”
The guard said nothing more and turned to leave. Following his lead, Jasper slowly got up, brushed the dust off himself, and wiped his hands before taking a few steps to follow the guard.
Jasper was assigned by Viktor to the laborers’ quarters, the lowest-ranking area where the wolves did the most laborious tasks.
Upon arrival, Jasper could hardly believe that these were actual people. They looked emaciated, as if they had just survived a deadly plague, with sunken eyes and skeletal bodies.
However, they worked diligently because they knew that once they entered this place, there was no turning back.
