Selene slowly turned around, and when Jasper saw her, he was terrified. She looked neither human nor ghostly; her face was gaunt, cheeks sunken, and her chin protruded sharply. Her hair was disheveled, and she had become even thinner since the last time Kattie had seen her. There was no trace of the lively young girl; instead, her face bore a hint of sorrow.
Selene had gone for days without food, trapped within Viktor’s clutches. She couldn’t escape, and she had become a shadow of herself, devoid of vitality. Her prolonged stay in this hellish place had left a powerful stench on her. Kattie felt that if she hadn’t discovered Selene soon, she might have perished in this place. Or perhaps Viktor would have subjected her to even more torment, making her existence worse than death.
