Facing Viktor’s question, Kattie’s face regained its cold and indifferent demeanor as she replied, “No, it was just that the weather was too cold, so my eyes were watering.”
“It’s my fault. I should have prepared a warmer heat pack for you…” Whether Viktor believed Kattie’s casual lie or not, at least outwardly, he appeared to believe it. Thus, she had no reason to say or do anything further to probe or prove. Viktor was always attentive to her, so any abnormalities on her part were easily detected by him. Silence was the best course of action. If she acted normal, Viktor wouldn’t have a reason to do anything to her.
Right at that moment, Haysa returned as well. Haysa was a werewolf who had been with Kattie since childhood, living together like sisters. Their connection was so deep that they hardly needed words; a glance or a facial expression was enough to communicate. This eased Kattie’s mind, and she sighed quietly before saying, “Let’s continue.”
