Chapter 7
Because he was protecting Kattie from immediate danger, a wooden beam from the ceiling had hit him in the arm. The nail on the ceiling had scraped his left arm, creating a terrible trail of blood. More and more blood flowed from the arm, and on the other side was the sound of the wolves’ rapid footsteps.
Kattie now became panicked. She wanted to run away, but she couldn’t turn around and leave behind the person who had used his body to save her and injured himself so much.
She sat up frantically, trying to stop the wound from bleeding. But every time she saw so much blood, she couldn’t stop herself from remembering her tragic past—the past that she had buried to continue living like a soulless corpse.
She looked down at her other arm. It was that arm that had taken the life of the person she loved. She wished she could have cut off that arm herself so that she wouldn’t have to torment herself day and night because she couldn’t save the person she loved.
