Kattie was well aware of it. She realized her life was slowly dwindling. A few years back, her fur had started falling out abruptly. Coat served as a protective layer for wolves, and losing it was akin to losing their most primitive form of defense. Just as she had predicted, she became dependent on medicine to survive over time.
There were also times when Kattie had contemplated freeing herself, but Viktor held her sister, Jasper’s sibling, hostage. He constantly used that fact to threaten her, even though she hadn’t met her sister once. However, due to some inexplicable force, Kattie still believed and feared. She was afraid that taking her own life would lead to tragedies for many others, and she was also fearful that another one of Jasper’s loved ones would have to depart…
Kattie wanted to cry, but at this point, she could no longer call. She collapsed back onto the bed and curled up.
A sense of exhaustion enveloped her.
