Chapter 71

Raya’s POV

Things are quiet the next day and in fact it almost feels like I had dreamt yesterday only I am painfully aware of Lord Christopher’s lowly words directed at me and more so of Matilda’s presence at such a debasing scene. I weep for the child inside.

It was indeed true that all that glittered was not gold. When I saw Matilda, she greeted me with the same attitude she did every time and we carried on with lessons like nothing happened last night. I could read from her mannerisms that this was her defense mechanism.

For the next three days afterwards things remain quiet in the mansion. They are so quiet even the meetings Lord Christopher usually holds did not hold within these last three days. I was beginning to find my stay at the house pointless as my only reason for coming here was to gather intel on Lord Christopher and if it happened that I was not getting any new information there was no point remaining here.
