The afternoon flittered the glass as I pulled up to the office. A storm in the clouds, as if rain was about to fall, other than that, I could feel the pressure building, not just in the sky, but in my chest. Lucian had called me less than an hour ago. No explanation. No small talk. Just a clipped, “I’m at your office. We need to talk.”
Talon was waiting outside the entrance, arms folded, a shadow cutting across his face as he watched the surroundings. The second I stepped out of the car, he straightened slightly and nodded toward the doors. “He’s already inside,” he said, his tone low and controlled.
I muttered a curse under my breath. If he was already here, it wasn’t by accident. It meant he wanted me off balance, unsettled before I even reached him.
