Chapter 133. I’m Such a Fool

Adrianna’s POV

“Anna…” he whispered. I didn’t give him the chance to close the distance between us.

My feet had already carried me into the room with the door crashing shut behind me. The lock turned beneath my trembling fingers.

“Anna, please…” I heard his voice followed by his soft knock on the door. My heart caught in my throat as my teeth bit my lower lip hard until I tasted the metallic tang in my mouth.

“Please, talk to me, Anna, please,” he said, with another knock.

Yet I didn’t open the door. My chest tightened. I didn’t even know how long he kept knocking.

My legs grew weak as I slumped on the floor, drawing my knee close to my chest.

I knew he was still there. I could perceive his sweet cologne even though the door separated us.

I swallowed. “I didn’t mean to, I swear. I might lose it. I love you, Anna. It hurts…” his low voice echoed behind the door.
