“It's okay. Just don't scare me like that ever again,” I told my mom, and she nodded with a smile.
I looked over my shoulder for Veronica but she was nowhere in sight. My eyes hovered around the ballroom, trying to trace her. Just then someone placed a hand on my shoulder. “Veronica, I was looking— oh, it's you,” I said in a bored tone when I realized it wasn't Veronica but Sara.
“Hey, bro, I didn't think you would reconcile with Mom that soon,” commented my brother, giving me a pat on my back.
“Too bad. You must have wanted it to last long enough so that Mom would forget she has a son other than you,” I retorted, rolling my eyes.
“Aaron, you know, that's not what we want,” Sara said.
“I know what you guys want, but I'm not merging my company with yours,” I stated. “Why else would you want to talk with me?”
