The next morning, I barely managed to open my eyes because I couldn't catch a glimpse of sleep until dawn as a lot of thoughts were running in my head.

I felt a few fingers running across my hair. That's when I jolted up to see Veronica wide awake, her head rested on her elbow with a small smile playing on her lips. Without a second thought, I hugged her.

“Finally, you are awake,” I murmured against her hair.

“Maybe I should be the one saying that, considering you took your sweet time waking up,” Veronica said.

I pulled apart from the hug and cupped her cheek. “How do you feel?”

“Fine.”

“Where did you fall from?” I inquired.

“Terrace,” she curtly replied.

“How did you fall? Did you slip or did your heels break?”

“Even I am not that clumsy. Someone pushed me,” she said, and my eyes widened.

“What? Are you sure?”

She nodded with confidence. “I'm a thousand percent sure.”
