That night, the visitors for Klaire Ridley’s wake were fewer than the night before. This time, they were being respectful and paying their respects to the dead. They went to the ceramic jar and said their goodbyes.
Tonight, Seth and Anton were in their home offices, spending some hours studying for the case they’d be having on Monday. Ashlene explained to me that the two were preparing their defenses and speeches for the trial. They couldn’t be disturbed, she said. And I believed her. I knew if I showed up at their doorstep, I’d get an earful.
That left the accommodation of the visitors to only Ashlene and me. After our quiet dinner in the kitchen, I met with her to follow up on the finger foods we ordered for the guests. Tonight, we had rice cakes, chicken lollipops, mini burgers, revel bars, cucumber lemonade, and espresso coffee for everyone. Two women were serving those foods to whoever wanted them.
