Chapter 31. For Fame and Prestige

Ashlene got out of the private office after half an hour. She was escorted by Seth as she stepped out.
“You should visit us here more often. You have a lot of things to learn in law school, and there’s nothing more effective than learning it firsthand. Your brother and I would be very willing to teach you anything,” Seth said and kissed Ashlene on the head.
“I will try, Dad. But you know, at home, I have to be the woman of the house.”
“I understand. Just make it as often as you can. I missed you for many years, our only girl,” Seth said.
I removed the earplugs when Ash got out of the door and happened to hear the conversation. Seth really loved his only daughter. It was only with Ash that his strong demeanor and mean personality melted. It was a flattering spectacle to see, actually.
Ashlene said her goodbye to him and closed the door to his private office. Our eyes met and I stood up. This was my time to talk to her. Finally.
