Chapter 34. Assurances
DYLAN
Lyle’s face soured when I walked in their direction. He didn’t greet me or anything. Instead, he only gave me a blank reaction.
“It’s nice seeing you, Dylan,” he lied.
I only nodded. Unlike him, I couldn’t lie, especially when Ashlene was watching.
“That’s my seat, Lyle. You should find your own.”
I didn’t expect those words to come out of my mouth either. Ashlene was shocked when she heard it. So was I. But I guess it was only my honesty talking.
Lyle gave me a smirk and then got up. He went to the pantry and picked up a saucer for the finger foods.
“Don’t talk to him like that, Dy. It doesn’t sound good. I know you may be jealous because of how close he is to my family, but… just don’t talk to him like that. I don’t appreciate it. Try to be kinder with your words. We don’t want any trouble here.”
