Chapter 50. No more Klaire Ridley

Two days after the hearing, Seth finally decided to close the wake for the public and make it exclusive for the family. The announcement was made on television and newspapers... because he could. Everyone became aware, and starting the other night, we were the only ones who came and stayed up late for Klaire.
Those nights were over. Now, we were on our way to the cemetery. For the last time, Klaire would be given time with her family. Ashlene and I were in the backseat of the third car, driven by Pablo. Seth and Anton brought their own cars, and the jar with ashes was with Seth. Mrs. Josephine wanted to come, so she was with him in the first car.
I kept checking on Ashlene. I reached for her hand and reassured her that it was going to be fine now. Surprisingly, she wasn’t crying. She was only looking ahead at the windshield and past the view it offered. From there, she turned to look at me.
